Hello to all,I am a new member to the lonesome twin, have been a kawasaki rider a long time,am going to view a Z750 B4 on firday!! It runs and stops and seems from the pics to be in good condtion ,the owner informs me it has a lazy starter, and a reconditioned replacement engine,wh is wired up through a modern reg/recifer.
Is there any particular areas that I should be looking out for with these bikes
Any help pointers from members would be greatly appreciated

    • Hello Andy
Firstly let me welcome you to the website.
Unfortunately you have posted this in your personal area and not the forum. This means that it will only be seen by people who view your profile and not everyone.
Looking at the date you posted this you will already have been and viewed the bike. If so how did it go? Apart from the obvious there are not any specific things to look out for on these bikes when it comes to buying. It’s weak points are mainly the starter clutch which quite often is lazy and tacho drive seal which can leak where it fastens to the cylinder head. Both these issues are quite common and repairable. Exhausts are not the easiest thing to come by especially new and originals almost worth their weight in gold if in excellent condition.
I do have many of the parts for tehse bikes both new and used. I also can get quite a number of aftermatket parts at good prices, even parts no longer available from Kawasaki.
      Cheers
      Andy

    • Thanks for the reply was beginning to wonder what I had done wrong!! Now I know?
Anyway I saw rode ,and brought the bike,a 1979 B4 with a replacement engine with 15000 on it,looks ,rides and stops great, has Z1 paint work!
      She’s a beauty,bad side haven’t got it yet (courier)
And has a lazy starter motor,or as I am already learning may have a lazy starter clutch,as I tried the starter once warm and start it did,but the seller was most insistent I did not repeat the for fear of what!!! Am not sure!!
So that needs sorting, and the down pipes are sprayed Matt black and spoil the over all look,so how do I know if it’s the starter or starter clutch??
      Thanks for the help Andy

      • Congratulations. I would start with a refurb of the starter motor. Give it a good clean out paying good attention the rotor pick up gaps. Also check the cable contacts are clean. I am now supplying stainless steel downpipes or even complete systems if your interested. Cheap in comparison to other bike systems but sadly not pennies. The beauty is once purchased and fitted you should never need to do it again.

        • Hi how much are the stainless steel downpipes, including p&p to London address? I take it this is chromed S/S and will not discolour will use?
Also do you have the exhaust clamps and split collars??
          With thanks Andyfme

          • Hi Andy
The exhaust downpipes are in the shop at £295 inc UK postage. They are polished stainless steel not chromed. Sorry I don’t have new collets and clamps but I can supply used ones at £35 posted.

            Cheers

            Andy
