B2 Tank

Hi I have a 1978 B2 but the tank doesn’t fit properly. Looking underneath it has the peg that goes into the rubber grommet at the seat end and the hook for the rubber strap these fit fine. It has the curve where the fuel tap is so it defiantly looks like the right tank.
What happens is when you put it on the bike the two C shaped mounts at the front are to wide apart to reach the rubbers and with the peg in the grommet at the back they are about an inch back from the rubbers so don’t even reach. Can anyone shed some light on this.
Do I have the wrong tank?

No the bike is in Eddie Lawson colours, previous owner.
But it looks like a standard tank but doesn’t fit properly
