    • Hi Andy. I bought one new in 1976 and had for four years before the usual family issues meant that I regretfully sold it. I’ve had umpteen bikes since but always missed that one, so I’ve recently got a US import 1978 B4, currently under restoration. Can’t wait to get it on the road!
      Cheers,
      Colin.

    • Hi Colin, sounds like we both made the same mistakes! Lol.
Mine is B4 too, from the states imported late 98. It was a running heap when I got it.
A gearbox issue forced me to strip it completely so it got a bit of a cosmetic uplift as well as renewal of bearings and such like but that was back in 03 and I didn’t make a great job of it so it could do with another attempt. Trouble is I really enjoy riding it so don’t want to be without it.
      Such is life.
Would be interested to see/hear what you’re doing with yours.

    • Hi Andy. I’ve just noticed from previous postings that I said mine is a 1978 B4. Don’t know where my brain was, it’s a B3, the model for that year.

      • Hey Colin, I won’t hold it against you! B4 B3, same difference. Lol.
I need some rear shocks for mine and was thinking Hagon tho they ain’t cheap. Do you have any recommendations?
        Cheers
        Andy

        • Hi Andy. I’ve got Hagons as a replacement for Girlings on my 650 Norton, can’t fault them and they’re a few years old now! However Z-Power list the 335mm shocks for the Z400/650/750 and I’ve bought those. They look like the originals, but probably patterns from somewhere. Even so they don’t seem to be rubbish, they’re currently with Mavericks to go on the bike. When it’s done I’m not going to be TT racing with it, so I’ll be surprised if they aren’t perfectly ok. Cost £79.99 plus delivery. They’ve got a lot of stuff for the 750B still and KK knows them well, i think Phil is the contact. If you haven’t already, look at their web-site.
          Cheers,
          Colin.

          • Thanks for your thoughts on new shocks Colin.

I too won’t be racing in the TT this year either, lol. I ride gently these days and often two-up with my missus.
I’ve tended to find unbranded shocks don’t work too well, especially two up even tho the missus is a lightweight.
So I don’t want to chuck 80 pounds away and be disappointed. Its a pity yours isn’t up and running so you could see how good they are.
Looks like it’s having a thorough job done on it. When do you expect it to be on the road?
I might give Z a call and get their advice. I’ve had good stuff from them in the past.
            Thanks again,
            Andy

            • To be fair, the shocks could be from the original manufacturer, I don’t know. Worth asking Phil.
              Cheers,
              Colin.
