millosman started the topic Apparent source of oil leak, not the head gasket. What's going on? in the forum How To Fix It 3 years, 3 months ago
Hi all
I took my head off as have been getting oil spreading around the outside front of the cylinders and working it’s way round as it’s blown by the wind. Thought it was the head gasket but when I got the head off, the only sign of any oil is from these two holes, either in the cylinder block, or else from the matching holes in the head.
The…[Read more]

Thanks for your thoughts on new shocks Colin.
I too won’t be racing in the TT this year either, lol. I ride gently these days and often two-up with my missus.
I’ve tended to find unbranded shocks don’t work too well, especially two up even tho the missus is a lightweight.
So I don’t want to chuck 80 pounds away and be disappointed. Its a pity…[Read more] -

Hey Colin, I won’t hold it against you! B4 B3, same difference. Lol.
I need some rear shocks for mine and was thinking Hagon tho they ain’t cheap. Do you have any recommendations?
Cheers
Andy-
Hi Andy. I’ve got Hagons as a replacement for Girlings on my 650 Norton, can’t fault them and they’re a few years old now! However Z-Power list the 335mm shocks for the Z400/650/750 and I’ve bought those. They look like the originals, but probably patterns from somewhere. Even so they don’t seem to be rubbish, they’re currently with Mavericks…[Read more]

To be fair, the shocks could be from the original manufacturer, I don’t know. Worth asking Phil.
Cheers,
Colin.

Hi Kaptain
I can certainly agree on that score, they do get under your skin these zeds.
I wanted one when they first came out, as before that I had lusted for a Bonnie. I thought they might be similar in character but without the issues of reliability etc.
Reckon that was right. I’ve since had a Bonnie and yer, lots of character but I spent my…

Hi Colin, sounds like we both made the same mistakes! Lol.
Mine is B4 too, from the states imported late 98. It was a running heap when I got it.
A gearbox issue forced me to strip it completely so it got a bit of a cosmetic uplift as well as renewal of bearings and such like but that was back in 03 and I didn’t make a great job of it so it could…[Read more] -

Hi folks, I’ve rejoined after a long gap in membership.
I’ve had four of these zeds (so far) over the years and the latest one I’ve had for 21 years now. It will follow me to the grave now. No way am I going to make the mistake of selling one again!
Marvellous bikes. Looking forward to exploring the group once again.
Enjoy your rides folks.
Andy

Hi Andy. I bought one new in 1976 and had for four years before the usual family issues meant that I regretfully sold it. I’ve had umpteen bikes since but always missed that one, so I’ve recently got a US import 1978 B4, currently under restoration. Can’t wait to get it on the road!
Cheers,
Colin. -

Hi Andy. I’ve just noticed from previous postings that I said mine is a 1978 B4. Don’t know where my brain was, it’s a B3, the model for that year.
