Michael – thanx for that.
Here’s some pix of the ChrisLWG conversion which will be carried out on the Glemseck project.
Decent high output coils required – recommendations ?
Also – aftermarket ignition system ? Preferably one with a retard facility at the top end.

MOB thanx for your input and helpful links.
Oil cooler – a must with a turbo as the oil gets mighty hot. What external oil pump had you planned on using ?
The plan is to run via a separate oil supply direct to the oil cooler and thence to the turbo, giving me a good supply of cooled oil for the turbo. The turbo requirements are opposite to that…[Read more]

Don’t you love it when the plan you didn’t ACTUALLY HAVE – WORKS !!
Space to spare and bracketry dead simples.
Plenty of room to get pipe / hose to Weber intake log. The only [ ha,ha ] issue is I might need a scavenge oil pump for the turbo return pipe.
Space also for the cone filter from the turbo and even the exhaust outlet aligns with space…[Read more]

Turbo arrived – spot on and in excellent condition.
While looking for some unwanted KZ bits in my garage I came across a Micro Dynamics ignition boost control unit …… last used on a blown Alfasud hill climber – 35 years ago !! Told you I never throw anything away.

Public thanx to KK for sourcing the info on the piggy back oil system / oil cooler from Chris – also the twin plug head! Takes me back to my Drag race days with Triumph twins.
This project is really firing me up now as I can see all the various queries and “whatifs” being ticked off one by one – thanx to the generous folk hereabouts willing to…[Read more]

Point of no return — GT15 turbocharger arriving Friday courtesy of a “barter” deal !! Proud of me KK ?
I might be in need of a couple of scrap exhaust pipes. All I need initially is the first 12″-18″ of bend in reasonable weldable condition.
I will then Siamese the pipes on the left side ( high level ) and from there to the turbo located on the…[Read more]

Michael,
Glemseck is my kind of place !!
It would be fun to run the drag strip again – it’s been over 35 years since I last raced !
I don’t expect the bike to be ultra competitive, but it would be a blast to run it.
And of course I will have fellow KZ750 owners cheering on.

Michael,
I’m never happier than when somebody tells me “You can’t do that” – and then go ahead and do it !
I was having a discussion with a group of Volvo owners ( yes I have a couple of them ! ) and talking about getting rid of the troublesome electronics associated with the stock turbo, and replacing it with a draw through Eaton supercharger.…[Read more]

Oh dear the bad news ………… the Glemseck bike will no longer be Eaton supercharged ……… the good news, it will be T3 turbocharged with Nitrous Oxide assist to eliminate any turbo lag – oh yes – and ADD 100BHP AT THE TOP END.
In order to shorten the development / build / special parts requirements [ and thus cost ] – I’ve decided the…[Read more]

So after another !ate night chat with KK – the Glemseck project is now officially on.
All the good bits ( Grimeca hubbed / Borrani wheels, Tarrozis, etc. ) will be blackberried off the Flat Tracker to make the Glemseck project a priority.
All done with the aid of engine and frame bought from KK.
So, I’m blaming him for this project !!!
It will…[Read more]

The project got a bit of a boost today as it seems a donor engine / frame is on the horizon. I’ve managed to get most of the engine ( blower) related bits together now.
I can really start plotting then !!!

Kenny,
A parts list is the best starting point as that WILL show all parts and usually the order they are assembled. You will still needs manual for torque values etc.
We are fortunate that we have some good input from hands on owners ( eg Michael, Kwak, etc) on this forum.
Parts list, manual,forum ……all you need !

The fact that one nut ( at least ) is not in place would lead me suspect that the big ends hadn’t been correctly torqued. Either way, that’s some devastation !

IF there are no obvious signs of oil starvation, and IF the engine has been “rebuilt” the cynical amongst us might suspect incorrectly torqued / tightened big end nuts ?
If you go own the route of replacement, don’t bin the engine ! I need a mule to mock up the supercharger for the embryonic Glemseck project.
-
beachcomber replied to the topic Doh!!! in the forum Progress Reports 8 years, 10 months ago
Wow that’s devastation right there !
On a positive note, you’re half way there to a big bore conversion as at least one sleeve needs to be replaced !
Can’t tell from the pic – is the big end journal blued as well as scored ? That would point to oil supply issue.
Considering the damage to the rod, I think you got off light !
Amazed it was still…[Read more]

Still on the “what if” list.
I’ve worked out a suitable drive for the blower now.
So, it is a goer from a proof of concept basis – no rush -
beachcomber replied to the topic Doh!!! in the forum Progress Reports 8 years, 10 months ago
Prior to removing the head ( looks inevitable ) get a piece of thin dowel / similar and have a poke around the piston crown when it’s near the top of it’s stroke. That way you should be able to determine if there’s a hole in the crown. Petrol poured in at around tdc will work. If it disappears rapidly – there’s a hole !
-
beachcomber replied to the topic Doh!!! in the forum Progress Reports 8 years, 10 months ago
If the piston was NOT connected to the crank [ for whatever reason ]it would stay at the top of the bore on the downstroke ???

That was the accepted method to free rings back in the 50’s and 60’s before commercial anti-seize products were available – worked too ! Redex and Plus Gas also worked, but yer Mum usually had a can of Esso Blue or pink [ name fade]in the shed that cost you nothing!
If you think adding paraffin to soak over night is weird, then you probably have…[Read more]

Was the bike stood for any length of time ?
Could be the rings have seized to the piston.
Maybe a slug of paraffin, etc. overnight might do the trick.
Are valves closing correctly?
Either way – good luck
