beachcomber replied to the topic mystery front wheel ? in the forum Everything Else 17 years, 9 months ago
I assumed it came off a twin given where we are, chances are its off a cb honda of some sort or an early goldwing if its got threaded bearing retainers.
early four pot hondas had alloy hubs with alloy threaded collars that had seized solid by the time you needed to change the bearings, sensible folk used loctite and chucked the collars away which…[Read more] -

beachcomber replied to the topic mystery front wheel ? in the forum Everything Else 17 years, 9 months ago
Thats an after market american mag wheel, Lester sold loads in the 70’s to spokey wheel folk who wanted to keep up with the times.
Far better kit than early kwak mag wheels as they were made from aircraft grade alloy that didn’t go furry the first time you took a wet rag to it. -
beachcomber replied to the topic Suzuki GS550 in the forum Everything Else 17 years, 9 months ago
gs550’s were a blinding bike in their day, however the hype drove prices up and they were no more reliable than a z550 or xj550, (not mentioning single overhead hand grenade honda cb550’s)
Everybody raves about gs roller bearing crankshafts but there was no jap four cylinder bike that took out a crank before the top end ate itself so there you…[Read more] -

beachcomber replied to the topic gs inlets in the forum Bike Related Sales and Wants 17 years, 9 months ago
Hurray the inlets are mine! Now whats this about spacers and whatnot phil, also I reckon I could knock the emulsion tubes out and line bore the carbs and rubbers out to 38mm, anyone tried this?
Failing that would it be worth tapering the spacers out from 36 to 38mm so there isn’t a step where they mate up with the head? -
beachcomber replied to the topic need a new coil????? in the forum How To Fix It 17 years, 9 months ago
I can get new coils for ?25 2.2 ohm, although to be honest I’d buy kap’s as you get a better spark with 3 ohm, just make sure your points and condensors alright.
Another thing to consider on a twin is that the spark goes from earth through the plug then the coil and back out through the other spark plug. So if one sides got a better spark than the…[Read more] -

strange things xs250’s they either work or they don’t, my mate trev had loads and he had a theory, the ones that worked got used and got ugly, the ones that didn’t work got put away and turned up later looking good.
trev ran round on some bloody awful xs 250’s with a garage full of spares.
best be buying some feeler gauges to set the points.
I’d…[Read more] -

Steady on, we are starting to sound like harley riders ‘if you don’t ride one you wouldn’t understand’.
What a crock, had a 60’s ironhead sportster 1000 and an evo 883 five speed and they were bloody awful.
Also restored a 56 A10 gold flash beezer, it was a bit dull really.
A 750 twin is a good bike and it doesn’t need bulling up, the reason we…[Read more] -
