I am really confused what is going on there. The starter clutch and generator do not have a brass spacer or a key of any description. It looks like for whatever reason a previous owner has somehow attempted to carry out a modification but to what and why? Looking at the pictures I feel the crank is still capable of locking the correct generator…[Read more]

Thanks KK. I will phone this week. “NO woodruff key on the crank” Than explains why I could not find one on the parts diagram.
Here are some pics.
The brass insert and the metal bit were in the rotor.
The crank end
It looked like this was where the woodruff key was supposed to go.
The rotor is a bit churned up and might ne…[Read more]

Hi Nairb
Firstly we are here to help. There is NO woodruff key on the crank. The generator assembly simply locks itself on the taper of the crank. I am unsure exactly what you are looking at.
I have many spares here and i am sure i can help you out.
Is yours a B1 model? Was the exhaust original?
I have sent you my number in a PM.
Cheers

Just an update….. I finally looked at the end of the crankshaft where the rotor is held in place by the woodruff key… its all been cut away, or broken away.
So, that’s the electric start done for at least. Maybe it can be tightened up enough for the generator to still work.
Hopefully the engine is ok……

The bike was bought as a non-runner…… so there had to be a reason? – right. Sometime its just lack of use and stands in the shed for years. But this bike was complete and turned over with compression. All the electrics worked except the starter system.
“The starter clutch needs fixing” said the PO. Fair enough, I thought.
So I have had…[Read more]

Thanks for this. Yes it took over a year to get the exhaust pipes re-chromed after extensive surgery on them. It is a lovely bike to ride and have enjoyed its undemanding pace. My fuel leak is even when on the centre stand so tap leaks when off and float valves aren’t stopping this despite being brand new OEM. I also put OEM float…[Read more]

Hi Marko and welcome back. Your twin is still looking great. I changed the handlebars on my CSR for the B type. Far more comfortable and easier to ride now.
BTW I’ve deleted 2 of the repeated posts above
Cheers

Hi Bevan.
Long time no speak, welcome back. You’ve done a great job on your restoration, it looks amazing.
Re the petrol leak I have had the same problem. I have tried all sorts and not managed to fully solve the issue. It is fine on the centre stand so I am going to swap the bowl gaskets for genuine Kawasaki ones as soon as I can find some.

Hello,
first sorry for triple post above, I do not know how that happened.
I am posting a couple of fresh picture of my twin. As you may have noticed, the handlebars are new – a bit wider and higher, feels more like a cruiser now and that was the intention. Had to change the clutch cable because of that for a longer one. Also, I had to re-chrome…[Read more]

So, a new discovery. Those fork caps. I thought they would be steel and chrome. Mine are not rusty, just dull and scruffy. So I took them off for a clean.
I guess they are an alloy with chrome?. Anyway, not being rusty is a bonus, and they have gone back on a bit brighter/cleaner.
It’s only a small thing and for a change does not cost a fo…[Read more]

Sorry, should have also mentioned that I have set the float levels as per service manual, checked and then rechecked. Also balanced carbs.

Been a while but finally have the B1 done and dusted after a long wait to get mufflers rechromed. Will post the whole saga under projects in due course. Only remaining gremlin is a very slow but persistent fuel leak from carbs, even when fuel tap turned OFF. I have replaced all O rings in fuel tap, all jets and float valves in carbs but still the…[Read more]
