Hi Dougie I don’t have any technical advice for you but I have seen a lot of bikes with their rear end chopped down over the years. Some or them look crap and some look stunning!
I would put a lot of thought into it including making several drawings or even manipulate some photos on “photoshop” or similar programme, If you come up with a stunning design then it’s youre bike “go for it”. What’s the worst that can happen? you don’t like it so get the welder out and put it back to standard.
Go for it, you know you want to, dare to be different!
    thats my two-penneth anyway! 😀

Little Tommy walks into his parents bedroom and sees his Mom and Dad having sex. His Dad looks over and yells at him to get out!
Five minutes later his Parents hear shouting and screaming comming from the next room. Dad bursts into the room to find little Tommy HAVING SEX WITH HIS GRANDMOTHER! Tommy looks over to his Dad and says “it’s different when it’s your mom isn’t it” 😳

    Hi all
I would just like to say thanks to all who have responded to my posts over the last few weeks, as this is my first Z twin I have been working slowly through things and the comments and tips have been very welcome.
In firing up the bike for the first time since 2003 I realised that I had made my first mistake in not chainging the oil first. It must have had quite an ammount of condensation in the engine because what looked like reasonably clean engine oil turned into mayonnaies after the engine had been running a while. So much so as it caused the clutch to slip so badly that I could not start the bike the next day. I have now drained the oil, stripped the clutch, cleaned all the plates, re-assembled it, filled with new oil, two new spark plugs and she fired up and ran beautifully. My only concern was that it ran a little too fast on tickover when warm, but do you think I could find how to slow the tickover down? I looked all over the carb and in the end I had to phone my mate who ownes a bike shop. After a brief phone call he had booked me in for an MOT for this afternoon (I was now legel to ride the bike on the road) so first stop was the petrol station where the tank took nearly ?12 of unleaded then off down the lane and onto the dual-carrageway. The bike ran so smooth and I was suprised by the ammount of torque it had (after resding all the crap reviews it gets) I was so impressed that I opened it up to see how it performed. It quickly reached 85mph on the clock (throttle not wide open as it is 31 years old) which I held for about a minute, I could feel a slight vibration coming through the bars which dissapeared at about 70, I then slowed to about 55 and rode to the Shop.
On arrival my mate said that there should be a screw to adjust the tickover between the carbs but we could not find it and after a few minutes of looking he found the adjusting screw by the left hand carb behind the fuel pipe. A few turns of the adjuster and it was running like a dream! After placing an order for a few parts and recieving advice on what needed doing for the MOT I took a steady ride home with a smile on my face! 😀 After getting home I fitted a new ignition lock and a seat lock thanks to again PHILPASS you are a Gentleman!!!!
I now need to drop the oil again, repair the starter clutch (it only catches when the engine is hot) more clean oil and a new filter, fitt parts on order find and fit a chain guard and its ready for its MOT.
To sum up BLOODY BRILL BIKE and thanks again for the help! 😀

Hi all here is probably the daftest question ever asked but here goes.
My starter clutch works sometimes when the engine is hot but it doesn’t work when cold. I want to do it before I start to ride the bike as I don’t know its condition and it could be about to damage the engine (I have read the warnings on this site). In the absence of a manual (still trying to find one). Where is the starter clutch located? I am reasonably mecanically minded so I will be able to work my way through it but are there any words of caution when tackling this job. ❓ 😳

Hi I joined the group a few days ago and asked advice about buying a Z750 twin as had found one for sale for ?250. Thanks for the replies and the general concensus was buy it, get it in the garage and worry about the condition later. Well thats exactly what I have done today (except that it’s in my mates Garage at the moment). I had a good look over it before handing over my hard earned cash and this is my initial assessment of it (but I’m no expert).
It’s a British market bike not an import, has a genuine 33,000 miles on it (all old mot’s up until 2003 and has been sorned since then).
Cosmetically the bike is in great condition for it’s age 1978 R reg, all chrome good and reletively rust free, no rott on seat base and it has just been re-coverd and new foam, all electrics work and it started second kick after priming it. No rattles, clanks, cam chain noises etc in fact it ran realy quiet almost like a new engine, I could not beleve it.
Aftermarket 2 into 1 exhaust rust free!
Engine oil tight and does not burn oil.
    Now for the bad points!
Rear mudguard hand painted blact and rotten
    Chainguard missing,
Needs a new lockset (Barrels missing in both ignition switch and seat lock, it did come with a screwdriver trhough 😆 )
Rev counter does not work but could just be cable,
Electric starter does not work (did manage to get it to work once after engine was hot but generally sprag clutch is not locating).
Needs a new front tyre as its bald but rear is as new.
I can’t wait until my mate delivers it so that I can have a propper look at it, will post some pictures as soon as It comes.
Get ready for a 1,001 questions in the near future as I will need to find parts and get is ready for it’s MOT ! 😀
