Thanks for the info and picture, KK. Much appreciated.
I have considered doing that, but I don’t like the position at which it puts my foot.
After posting this message, I found a nice set of CNC, aluminum, folding rear sets for $99.
I’m going to buy them, then build brackets to install them.I’ll let you know how it turns out.
27th February 2021 at 12:25 am #27453KZ_KonParticipantHey KK,
I finally got the replacement o-ring, oil seal, and fiber washer installed for my leaking tach cable.
Worked like a charm! Thanks for your info. You helped a lot.23rd February 2021 at 11:39 pm #27443KZ_KonParticipantHi KK,
I have to agree with your assessment.
Unfortunately, if I remember correctly, I did try reversing the leads on the relay and had no change. Being that I’m getting older and forgetful, I’ll try again, just in case I forgot lol!
Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.

I’m going to take it all apart to make sure mine is in good shape. If it is I won’t buy one.
I’m also going to call the Kawi dealer and see if they can still get the oring and oil seal and what they charge. I find that sometimes they’re cheaper on certain things.
27th July 2020 at 5:33 pm #25917KZ_KonParticipantAh, I see! Thanks for clarifying that.
I guess it’s time to look up the part numbers for the o-ring, oil seal, and fiber washer.
Thanks, Kaptainkwak.
27th July 2020 at 12:36 am #25915KZ_KonParticipantThanks for the info. Although, it doesn’t seem to be leaking from where it screws into the motor. Rather, from where the plastic outer sheath of the cable meets the metal stem end of the cable that’s attached to the motor. It looks like oil gets into the metal stem and leaks out of the spot where it goes into the plastic sheathing

Still ironing out some last minute bugs. Getting some leaking from where the sheathe of the tach cable meets the metal that comes out of the engine mounting side. Used some Black RTV on it. Let’s see if that helps.27th July 2020 at 12:05 am #25911KZ_KonParticipantThanks for your replies, everyone.
I have checked the float heights using the appropriate fuel level gauge a(clear tubettube that screws into bowlabowl drain screwascrew)s at the appropriate height. Actually, they are at the lowest of the height settings, so they are well below the lip of the carb body and float bowl. Actually, one float was set a tiny bit too high, so the fuel level was low causing the bike to starve for fuel at top gear and high speed.
Also, float needles and seats are new.
Baffling, isn’t it?
I just got something called Hylomar Universal Blue sealant. Gas resistant, used on aircraft, non-hardening. I’m going to try a thin coat on the gaskets.
27th April 2020 at 5:31 pm #25548KZ_KonParticipantThanks coleighf! Yes, it was a lot of work! Now, though, it’s all mine! I know every inch of it.
It’s a lot more fun to ride than I though it would be. Mainly, I’ve ridden kz900’s for the last 30 years, so wasn’t sure how this would stack up. Honestly, I’m quite happy! It’s got enough power, is quick enough for me, and handles well.
27th April 2020 at 5:29 pm #25547KZ_KonParticipantHi KK,
Thanks! It definitely has been, all in all, a fun and satisfying process.
Yes, I’m frustrated by not being able to ride, but it should clear up soon enough.12th March 2020 at 2:48 pm #25469KZ_KonParticipantI also have the G panels on mine. They look SO much better. The stock twin side covers look like the unloved stepchild of Space 1999 and the original Battlestar Galactica.
18th September 2019 at 8:07 pm #25233KZ_KonParticipantHey Tango. Yup, I made it here. Thanks for telling me about it.
Thanks for the bike compliments, too. Unfortunately I just had surgery for a torn bicep, so I’ll be out of commission for 4-6 weeks. That means I probably won’t be able to ride till next spring. That’s ok though.
8th July 2019 at 1:10 am #25184KZ_KonParticipantSuch great looking bikes, Michael! And so exciting to be on the track!
I’ve been riding for almost 30 years, gone to the races, worked in the put, but never rode on a track. Once my kz750 is done I do plan on some track days!
Thankfully, there is a track only a few miles away from where I have recently moved to in Albuquerque, New Mexico
29th June 2019 at 4:46 pm #25177KZ_KonParticipantHow nice to have an entire family that rides! I’m currently single, no kids (50 years old) and have finally realized that I hate taking passengers on my bikes, so my next girlfriend will need to ride her own. 🙂
I’ve been riding KZ900’s for around 30 years now. I have a mania with Mad Max. True story.
I’ve had other bikes over the years, too, but the kz900 was my go-to bike for years.I’m glad to hear how good the kz750 twin is. I’ve wanted one for years, and am planning on taking this one to track days from time to time (which reminds me. I have to look for crash bars, or install frame sliders), as well as daily driving, trips, camping, and exploring my new state of New Mexico.
All I have left is install the drive chain, install the steel braided brake lines and bleed them, and then bodywork and paint. So close!!!
