ParticipantFirstly, what checks did you do and what did you find?
I had problems with the coil on my bike, and the replacement I got didn’t check out right but it turned out to be a loose connection on the HT lead, cut back and rewound it into the coil and that sorted it.
A new coil wasn’t all that expensive to buy when I bought one, and quite readily available (pattern parts though). You shouldn’t need two condensers, as they are there to stop the points arcing. If you have one by the points then that’s all you should need.

ParticipantI’m not sure the rotor is magnetised, as there is a coil in the centre of the alternator which is fed power from the regulator. As the voltage increases at the output the amount of current in the centre coil decreases and lowers the output to keep it at the correct voltage.
I believe the rotor just breaks the magnetic field to induce the current flow in the main windings. It is not a permanent magnet as far as I can tell.Of course any and all information in this post could be totally wrong as it’s based on my own guesswork.

ParticipantHey Lonesome, been meaning to take a ride up your way to see how things are. Time just keeps slipping away. Will ring soon and arrange a visit to see the new machine. 😎

ParticipantIf you can send some bigger pics, and less blurry so I can see the colour scheme properly 😉

ParticipantBike looks great Phil. I intend to start tidying mine up soon. I like the look of the tank.

ParticipantThe most likely fault is going to be the wiring into the headlight unit where it can get cut by the edges as it goes in. Also check where the wiring comes around the headstock as that is prone to cracking the insulation due to the flexing as the steering is turned.
I’d have to look through the wiring diagram to find out more though. I am assuming the headlight bulb is OK and not blown and shorting inside (it happened to me recently).

ParticipantSounds like it’s running lean. Have you checked the diphragms in the carbs, or for air leaks on the pipes between the carbs and the barrels?
Also check for missing blanking plugs on the vacuum test points.
I’d go for something simple before rejetting unless something else has been changed.dougyt
ParticipantLike your bike, the ikkle one is getting better by the day :). Back on her feet and just a couple of small patches to heal.
Good to see some major progress on the bike and hope it starts at the weekend.dougyt
