Took it apart, the head looks O.K, the gears are there but all the Thrust washers and O rings are missing, managed to get hold of some replacements. Main problem looks like it wasn’t tighten up properly.

Well that probably eliminates a lot. The head of the starter motor is a gear box. What you say suggests the gears have probably been removed. I do have a new starter motor head but that doen’t come cheap but should be able to supply you with any missing parts in used condition.

Made a bit more progress today, the carbs was leaking fuel out of the right overflow, a tiny adjustment to the float bowl height sorted this. Once fuel was in the carbs it only took a couple of kicks to start. Then it was time to look at the electric starter problem. Dropped oil out and took the side cover off, pressed the starter, I can hea…[Read more]

That’s surprising. If everything is fitted I would expect to hear chattering. Spinning freely normally happens when the chain has been removed which some people do when the clutch fails. The only other things that come to mind are a bit more serious.
Firstly it might be the large gear that engages with the starter clutch is either a wrong one or…[Read more]

152 & 155 are very healthy. In what way is the engine failing to turn? Is the starter motor sluggish or is it spinning quite freely and chattering?

Head was taken off with new valves and gasket fitted. Valve gaps checked and new shims fitted. Time for a compression test, cannot turn the engine over with stater motor even with both plugs out (clutch rebuild kit fitted, but gear needs changing), so have to do it with the kick start. No down pipes or airbox/filter fitted and kicking it ov…[Read more]

Cheers Phil
That is the sort of information i was hoping to get from the group. I’m looking at a 550/750 Zephur swinging arm to fit & need to make a few measurements once I get the bike in my workshop to confirm it will fit in the frame or need minor work to do so.
Cheers

Looking at the picture I would say it’s a 1982 Y1 LTD. Check the frame number in the Model ID section of the library.

I speak with Michael quite regularly. He runs the German twin site http://www.z750twin.de
Actually tried today without success. He is probably out racing his 750 twin. I will ask the question when I make contact.KK

I’ve been keeping an eye on that on ebay. Good to see you got it. I’m always interested in parts donated, swapped or bought to help keep members running. Let me know what becomes available and if you want anything and we can look to deal.

I don’t know the measurements but I can tell you they are different for different models. What model do you have?

I like the rearsets, do you have any details of who made them & the mounting bracket?

Hi
Does anyone know the width of the swinging arm where it fits in the frame? I’m looking at later model aftermarket swinging arms to fit a wider 17″ wheel & a 150 tyre & want to measure a few up as options
Thanks in advance
