The plan is to be as good as new. I’ve located some of the bits, as well as the bike(!) in the USA. You certainly need to shop around.

You could be right Chris. At the moment most people don’t know it existed!

Thank you again Stu. The original silencers were so restrictive that they strangled the bike, the balance pipe was needed to reduce back pressure by allowing each cylinder to vent through both. With less restrictive silencers it shouldn’t be necessary, so I will probably do the same as you.

Thank you for that Stu, much appreciated. I will contact them. Did they include the balance pipe or did you not bother with that?

    • I didnt bother with the balance pipe.

Hi Stu. Looks great, may I ask who made the S/steel down pipes for you please? I’m looking for a set for mine. I want to use them with the Marving silencers made for the Z750B, supplied by Wemotec. Is that what you have on yours? It looks like it.
    Cheers,
    Colin.

    • The downpipes were made in stainless by Harrison Performance. They are near Edinburgh. I had to take the bike to them and they cost £500.The silencers were of Ebay.

Hi Chris. I had a B1 from new in 1976 until 1980 and loved it, always regretted letting it go. Absolutely agree how under-rated it was, but sadly motorcycling has always been subject to b*** ***t and fashion nonsense, it still is. Most that criticise particular bikes have never even ridden one, or at least not for far enough to find out what…[Read more]

Hi Roy. Have a look at the German site as well, you might get some ideas from there as well.Michael Schumaker is very helpful.

My bike is with Mavericks Wales, fully stripped and engine dismantled. The metalwork is with the painters, I have obtained the UK standard rear mudguard and had all of the bright work stripped and re-plated. Seat beautifully re-built by Leightons. New Marving silencers and rear shocks obtained plus lots of other bits. Frame due back from powder…[Read more]

    • It should be as new condition when you’re done. I know it’s not cheap but will be worth it in the long run. I think my frame has been powder coated about 4 times over the years . I got a lot of parts from e bay in the u s a as it was a popular bike over there and no’s parts were cheaper than they are now.

Yes, it’s the same as mine, same colour, although I’m changing it to red. B3 was the 78 model year, it has quite a few changes compared to the B1 and B2. The B4 was 79 and has four pinstripes on the tank. I’m going to keep the twin carbs on mine, they will be fully reconditioned. Neither the B3 or 4 were sold in the UK.
    Cheers,
    Colin.

I wondered because the tank looks like it’s been finished as a B2, the striping is different on the B3. Mine’s a 78 B3 brought in from the US. I’m taking it to UK spec with the longer rear mudguard. I had a B1 from new in 76, sold it in 70 and also wanted another one. I’m looking forward to getting it on the road. I think I saw your’s advertise…[Read more]

    • yes , paint is like B2 , ,Odd the import paperwork said B4 but it is a 78 model and some of the other papers said B3 which I believe is correct . so yes electronic ignition works a treat , easy start kick or button .Single carb seems good so far , running a bit rich but easily sorted . My last one had the twin carbs, think this one had the…[Read more]

  • Funny how we all have different ideas. I think the G panels look rubbish. For me Kawasaki made a really handsome bike with the original B and didn’t improve it with the later versions.  Good job we don’t all think the same.

Hi Steve. Looks like a very nice US spec B2? The silencers seem to be the Italian ones from Marving, supplied by WeMoto? I have bought those to fit onto my 78 B3 currently being restored by Mavericks.

    • It is a US Spec 1978 B3 , you are correct the silencers are Marvings , they fit a treat and sound great .Other mod it has had is a 2 into one manifold and a single Mikuni Carb fitted . Plan to rechrome the down pipes too

  • I was thrilled to find these photos from so long ago, although it doesn’t seem so long! I have added in one of the recently acquired US import, I look forward to getting that one on the road some time this year, restored to as new UK standard.

  • That looks fantastic Doctorot. A lot of “specials” look like codges, but that one is more like a factory job. Very smart and looks up to date, not forty or so years old.

Hi Kaptain Kwak! I tried to message you a couple of days ago but I am not sure if it worked or not. I can’t get the magazine articles in the library to open, even though I would love to read them. I have tried with my MacBook Air and IPad, so maybe it is a Mac problem? Can you help, or does anyone else have any ideas?
    Coleighf.

  • Further to my earlier posting, when I received the documentation for the bike it turned to be registered in June 1978, which fits for a B3, in Dover, Ohio. It looks as if it only had one owner and was last ridden in 1991. The recorded mileage is 16,500 and I believe it’s genuine. There was mild scuff damage on the right side and a broken front…[Read more]
