That suggests at least one of the seals have failed and although you have managed to seal the screw in part it is still getting through the cable part and then out of the cable outer.

I am very impressed with how clean your engine is especially as it isn’t painted. How did you have it cleaned or was it like that when you got it?

It is quite a common problem KZ_Kon.

There should be 3 seals in there (an O-ring, an oil seal and a fibre washer) all are which are still available from Kawasaki. It is worth replacing them all.

It is a messy job with dust and drifts getting everywhere but I certainly does get rid of all the muck and corrosion

The wiring harness wanted some attention. A few connectors were replace as well as these repairs

Resulting in a healthy wiring harness

Next I addressed the brakes

Usual offenders were present

But finally fully stripped and cleaned down to bare metal

Then we plant them

And look what a bit of sun can do

I sent the barrels and head away to be blasted

The cut stud in the crankcases was put to one side for now

and I started the Rolling Chassis build

And now we can start to reassemble

So the work starts here. We need to refurb

Then stuff started to come back in.

Stuff was sent off for Powder Coating, Zinc plating and the wheels sent away for rebuilding. While waiting for them to return I set about polishing the Aluminium parts

She was so run down both inside and out but I got the engine stripped and out then the frame stripped bare.

As you can see she was very tired and in desperate need of some serious TLC. I did attempt a makeover a couple of years ago and although she did run I soon realised she need the full works.

There are only 2 things that can jam a caliper. One is the piston which assuming you have cleaned and fitted new seals when you replaced the piston which should mean it’s the caliper not floating on the bolts. Did you clean and lubricate (grease liberally) these at the same time?

That is good progress so far. I have nearly completed my B1 refurb now. I also had a pile of screws etc zinc plated. It’s a great improvement for comparatively little cost. What paint did you use for your engine?

This is turning out to be a small world. At the Wirall your not far from me in Bolton and strangely I’ve been speaking to Rupert who you bought the bike from.

Are you planning to fix then ride her home or is it a trailor job?

As smiddl says no balancing is the main advantage but also settings are guaranteed to be identical. There are various ways I’ve seen this done but not seen the Mikuni done before. What size and model is it?
