It is likely that the re cutting of the valve seats has reduced the gaps significantly. Grinding the valve stems is one way of combatting that issue if re shimming isn’t able to sort it out. I also believe it is also possible to grind the shims as they are hardened through and not just surface hardened. Let us know how you get on.
Cheers

If I haven’t got items here my first port of call is Zpower, then ebay where I try and do deals. When Zpower are stuck they come to me. Send me a list of what you want and I will quote you. I have now helped quite a few members.

Well true to form its not giving in easily, checked the rest today, no gaps. I spoke to dave that did the valves and seats for me and he said will grind enough off the valve tips to give me 0.10mm using my original 2.65mm shims, or at least thats the plan. Good to know you have more shims just in case!

All bits and pieces being powdercoated….
The powdercoaters found both calipers had cracks (not on the oil pressure side) – so these are being welded first.
I found a great engine degreaser ‘Engine Klenz’ this is one of those lemon smelling ones and it seems to work better that jizer and more friendly on the hands / nose. (£10 for…[Read more]

Well indeed a positive start Karl. I’ve picked up some more shims so we should be fine whatever sizes you need.

Shim arrived yesterday, thanks, tried it this afternoon on one of the exhaust valves, gave me a gap of 0.08mm result! I wont be checking the other three for a few days as I am now on nights. Light at the end if the tunnel?

Hi Karl
I only have 2 x 2.2 shims so there is a 2.3 on it’s way down to you mate which should be fine to determine the sizes you need.

Morning kk
Manual says thinnest shims are 2.2mm, mine are all 2.65mm and tight. Can you supply one 2.2mm shim and I will see what if any gap that gives me?

Evening jon
I had my frame powder coated gloss black for £110 however I had to take it back there were two rough areas on the headstock, grease contamination apparently, shame was spot on otherwise, still to pick back up. All being well I will get my rusty steel rims and hubs done next, not had price for that yet.
I like that colour on yours.

Thanks for the info and picture, KK. Much appreciated.
I have considered doing that, but I don’t like the position at which it puts my foot.
After posting this message, I found a nice set of CNC, aluminum, folding rear sets for $99.
I’m going to buy them, then build brackets to install them.I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Hey KK,
I finally got the replacement o-ring, oil seal, and fiber washer installed for my leaking tach cable.
Worked like a charm! Thanks for your info. You helped a lot. -

Does each bearing come out each side then not both out the same side?

Hi Jon
That sounds expensive for powder coating. I got all mine done for £120 although didn’t include my wheels as they are spoked.
There is a spacer in between the bearings. This is a tube and has a collar at one end. The collar is to help hold the spacer concentric with the I/D of the bearing so they line up for the axle to pass through. The…[Read more]
