Hi Karl. I remember when we first heard of Hy-Vo chains for primary drive use that we were told that they ran much slacker than a traditional chain, they are supposed to. Also that they don’t wear out! So you should be ok.

Hi Paul, join the gang! That all sounds really promising. I bought my original B1 new in 1976 and did a lot of happy miles on it. I could never understand some of the stuff that was said about it because none of that sounded like the bike I was riding! My recent US import 1978 B3 is getting close to completing its restoration and I’m really l…[Read more]

Hi Jon, that certainly looks promising! Both mudguards look original, they’re as rare as hens’ teeth so worth hanging onto. There are light dimples on the front. I’ve got a 1978 B3 under restoration and close to finishing but the powder coaters and painters used aren’t anywhere near Portsmouth I’m afraid. Others who see this in the next few days…[Read more]

Here is my 1978 B3. It will be fully restored to UK spec with longer rear mudguard etc. although it was never actually imported here.

Hi Newbe, that sounds great, is it a US import? I had a 76 B1 from new and loved it. Currently I’ve got a 78 B3 from the US, currently in restoration to UK spec. I’m very much looking forward to mine, it will be great to see yours when it arrives.
Cheers,Coleighf.

Hi Martin! That all sounds wonderful! I recently bought a 1978 B3 from the USA and it is being restored now. Originally I bought a new B1 in 1976 and still have good memories!

I rode to Mavericks Wales today on my new CB500X (love it!) to see how the Z750B3 is coming along. Engine bottom end is together, frame powder coated, new rims, aluminium parts polished etc. Painted tank etc due back from the painters this week, so we’re getting there. I usually do these things myself but I’ve got a lot on and two old Nortons to…[Read more]

I was wondering what fertiliser you used in that plant box? When I tried that with Tomorite everything came out red!
The wiring refurb is interesting. The only time that my B1 stopped on me was in France. A fuse had blown, I replaced and it went again. What had happened was that when I fitted the Oxford cockpit fairing, I had to remove the…[Read more] -

Hi Cameron! Not a bike I instantly think of as a scrambler, so it will be interesting to see what you make of it!

If you have a head gasket blow there will be oil around where the leak is. You need to get the head off. If an engine is run to long like that you can damage the head.

If the exhaust system isn’t blowing anywhere, “chuffing”noises I’ve experienced have been associated with blown head gaskets, although that’s been on old English bikes! Having said that, oil where you describe It could come from there. It sounds as if either way you need to get the head off, Kaptain Kwak might know better though?

Hi Andy. Congratulations, it looks pretty original except for the exhaust system. Because they were originally made in one piece, when the silencers rotted I think it was common to saw them off and fit something else. They should be upswept but as the bend was in the silencer, fitting an alternative straight on ends up looking like yours. If you…[Read more]

There are pictures in my gallery of my original bike taken in 1977, also of the current one in the condition that it arrived in from the US, I don’t know how to move theM from there into the members pictures gallery though, I must find out.

To be fair, the shocks could be from the original manufacturer, I don’t know. Worth asking Phil.
