Hi Andy. I’ve got Hagons as a replacement for Girlings on my 650 Norton, can’t fault them and they’re a few years old now! However Z-Power list the 335mm shocks for the Z400/650/750 and I’ve bought those. They look like the originals, but probably patterns from somewhere. Even so they don’t seem to be rubbish, they’re currently with Mavericks…[Read more]

    • Thanks for your thoughts on new shocks Colin.

I too won’t be racing in the TT this year either, lol. I ride gently these days and often two-up with my missus.
I’ve tended to find unbranded shocks don’t work too well, especially two up even tho the missus is a lightweight.
So I don’t want to chuck 80 pounds away and be disappointed. Its a pity…[Read more]

      • To be fair, the shocks could be from the original manufacturer, I don’t know. Worth asking Phil.
        Cheers,
        Colin.

Remarkable stuff Chris. You’ve got a really special bike that looks pretty much standard except for the twin discs. Wolf in sheep’s clothing!

Hi Andy. I’ve just noticed from previous postings that I said mine is a 1978 B4. Don’t know where my brain was, it’s a B3, the model for that year.

    • Hey Colin, I won’t hold it against you! B4 B3, same difference. Lol.
I need some rear shocks for mine and was thinking Hagon tho they ain’t cheap. Do you have any recommendations?
      Cheers
      Andy

Hi Mark, great to see it coming along. KK I’m sure will answer the question on the wiring loom routing. Mine is still waiting for the painted stuff to come back, although it’s close to rolling chassis stage now.

    • thanks, I would like to see some pictures of yours !

      • There are pictures in my gallery of my original bike taken in 1977, also of the current one in the condition that it arrived in from the US, I don’t know how to move theM from there into the members pictures gallery though, I must find out.

        • I will try and find them ! But I am struggling to find my way around the site at the moment, need patience and time.

I can’t make up my mind if the forks look longer or the front wheel smaller, or is it all an illusion? I like the look of the Commando roadster looking alongside I’ve owned a Commando 850 Mk2A and Mk3, both Interstates.

Do we know where OS Pipes is?

  • coleighf replied to the topic Has anyone? in the forum The Trading Post 3 years, 11 months ago

Well, I don’t think any of us have found that one before! Do you want to find out if it’s still available and if so how much? If they do it with the balance pipe as well that would be interesting. Also can they do pipes and silencers separately? Over to you, it’s worth checking out the options.

No problem. Resolving these problems helps all of us.

That’s fine Marksav, I don’t like the US seat either! I think the pipes we are looking at will be stainless. Have a look at the Wemoto site for silencers for the Z750B, they have them made by Marvings in Italy and they are the correct shape and size, based on the originals, but without the welded seam. Also the connectors are correctly angled to…[Read more]

Hi Mark. I’m currently replacing the US type seat base on my B3 with the UK type it it’s use of any use. Also currently looking at the exhaust pipe header problem and might have an answer soon. If KaptainKwak sees your post I’m sure he will respond.

  • Hi, Mark, congratulations. You won’t regret it. My 1978 B3 is currently under restoration, also a US import. I had a new B1 in 1976 and loved it, so I’m going back there. If you get stuck with anything you’ll find answers here, KaptainKwak is the ultimate oracle!

Hi Andy. I bought one new in 1976 and had for four years before the usual family issues meant that I regretfully sold it. I’ve had umpteen bikes since but always missed that one, so I’ve recently got a US import 1978 B4, currently under restoration. Can’t wait to get it on the road!
    Cheers,
    Colin.

  • Hi Michael.

Very sad but understandable. If all goes well I will come to the 2021 event on my restored Z750B3!

    Stay safe.

    Colin.

  • I did a search and found that the bike I bought new in 1976 still exists and has been on SORN since 2011! Does anyone know where it is and who has got it? OOH338R.

  • That’s looking interesting!

I’ve got into my head to take mine to the German Z750 owners rally when all of this Covid19 stuff allows normality, for a journey like that where you have to do some fast road work, some wind protection is essential, well for me anyway! On my original 76 bike from new I had an Oxford Cockpit fairing, it was brilliant. I’m going to use an MRA scr…[Read more]

  • Hi Stu. Just to let you know that Harrisons have come back to me and said they can do the exhaust pipes. Cheers, Colin.

  • I’m sure the handlebars are the originals, I wouldn’t change them. Just saying though if you do want to go anywhere reasonably quickly you’ll need something to keep the wind blast off you. That’s true of the standard  UK bike with the lower handlebars as well, speeds above 80 give you a stiff neck!

  • Looks very promising Ben! You might want to fit a screen to stop yourself being blown off at more than 50 mph with those US market handlebars though!

  • Good one Kon, you certainly put the work into that one!
