Well spotted Karl, they are definitely Yamaha wheels and look like XS wheels, I might sell them at a letter date, someone hand painted them white and they look a mess but the white paint is crumbling and I may be able crumble the paint off to the original Yamaha black.

That doesn’t look bad, mine had no head steady fitted either, it has one made up to go on it now, if the engine ever gets back in the frame! They look like xs650 forks and wheels.

Finally move the old bike for a photo, engine will not turn over with electric start, fitted a starter clutch rebuild kit on Sunday, engine will now turnover with the spark plugs out, hit and miss with them in (more miss), will have to replace the starter clutch gear.

Hi Jimmy
You have posted this in your own space rather than on the forum. Less people will view it here. Check the boss on the starter sprocket and if the surface is slightly ridged clean it smooth with emery cloth. Ridges will make it chatter and slip. New sprockets are almost impossible to find. If it is sluggish with the plugs in that probably…[Read more]-
Thanks. I will come back to electric start at a later date, it will now start on run with the kick start, presently checking what else may wrong with the engine.

Ah yes i get it now..
When removing my ones i grabbed a long piece of 15mm copper tubed, squeezed it oval and it was just right to hold the top of the piston head.
Now that it’s dis-assemebled im’ thinking i might modify the piston heads to fit into a normal socket by pushing the socket onto the pistons you can see the tight spot and just dremel…[Read more]

No problem Jon.
Get a piece of M12 threaded bar approximately 650mm lg. Bend around 150mm at 90 degrees to form a handle. On the other end fit 2 M12 nuts and lock them together flush with the end of the bar. The 19mm nuts fit inside the inner fork piston head to hold it still while you undo the allen bolt on the bottom. This is only good on the…[Read more]

That’s fast progress and looking really good so far. It is quite surprising at times just how much a coat of paint can make such a difference. Can’t wait to see the tank, panels and tailpiece.

Well I am glad to report my bike arrived, a photo was taken so I will have a before and after photo, it was in that lovely Brown colour that most of you love but with a record of one owner and only 5500 on the clock then it shouldn’t be to hard to get it to a decent standard, so it got stripped and the first bits of powder coat have now r…[Read more]

Shims arrived today, fitted and gaps are good. Depending on work I might get cams in and a lick of paint on it on Monday.
Thanks

I remember that one on ebay not too long ago. I was going to bid but backed off last thing as I was furloughed with no help and I have very little room here.
She does look a good one and fingers crossed you get her running soon.

Hi KK. Well the bolts holding the starter ratchet onto the back of the generator rotor had worked loose and jammed the assembly into the crank case preventing rotation. Easy fix once spotted after complete disassembly. All looked pretty good inside and just about back together again now!
