That’s great news about the exhaust but just a bit of a warning with re chroming. Most places don’t want to re chrome exhausts especially used ones as they need to be chemically cleaned to remove the carbon deposits. This takes time and also costs. One member just had his done and I believe it cost around £500 so beware.

That sounds like some serious corrosion there. Is it the same on both sides? With a little heat they should turn then lift off. Sounds like the forks will be seriously damaged too. If you need replacements of the forks and headlight ears I can potentially help you out.

Hi I took the yoke off the top to see if i could get some penetrating oil down inside. But it didnt help. I’ll try a blow lamp next – maybe better than the attempt i did with a heat gun

It’s always handy to have a pile of bits when restoring one of these twins. Some things do need to be replaced with new parts but there is a great satisfaction when you manage to restore a 40+ year old part so it looks new.
If you are getting rid of any parts please shout up here.

I have spoken to OSpipes. They will do a system at around £800 but they need to have the bike for at least a day while they set it up.

It’s the upper fork cover which had the headlight lug.
Yoke clamps loose but it won’t twist off.
I’ll have to think how I can submerged it in oil to loosen the rust gripping it inside or just slice it

Afternoon yes you are probably right on the rebuilding of the engine,it will give you peace of mind when it’s all done, and you seem to be flying along. My rebuild is doddle as it just needs finishing off,its 90% done judging by the photos I am still trying to organise transportation to get it up here.I have another one in bits up the road that a…[Read more]

thanks, I didn’t pay very much for this bike, I put a cheeky bid in on ebay thinking I might be able to use the frame, and won! Its then sat in the back the garage for over 12 months before i had a proper look, I downloaded a manual and i decided to see if the engine was salvageable. If I bought an engine I would still strip it to check it…[Read more]

@Karl – Good news re the broken bolt. That could have been much worse. It really does seem to be picking up the pace now. Im sure you will need shims once back together but I have all sizes here mate.
@jimmyjaz – Absolutely JJ it has had awful abuse. Replacement is the most straightforward way but you can’t be 100% sure you not putting a duff…[Read more]

Afternoon,I’ve never seen a bike that has taken so much abuse, and you must have no fear of any project.I would look into a replacement engine as there is a few on the internet for £350,which in the long run would work out cheaper than a total rebuild. If you do source an engine just make sure it turns over ok and check it has compression on both…[Read more]

It is perfectly possible though to get the old one stripped and re-chrome plated. If it is in good physical condition it will come back like new. Nice looking bike, I always thought the B was the best looking of the 750 Twins. Although not an original colour, the silver always looks smart too.

Nice. She is looks in good condition and very solid. Apart from the obvious quite original too. Do you get to ride her much?
