As some of you know during the Covid19 lockdown I decided to utilise my time at home by refurbishing my B1. She is a UK registered B1 that I have owned no less than 4 times. When I have sold her it has always been with 1st refusal if selling on and as a sucker for these bikes I could never refuse. I last bought her back on 29th March 2014 and this…[Read more]

There are only 2 things that can jam a caliper. One is the piston which assuming you have cleaned and fitted new seals when you replaced the piston which should mean it’s the caliper not floating on the bolts. Did you clean and lubricate (grease liberally) these at the same time?

Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Bit more done! Great job by YB plating at Crawley. in the forum Progress Reports 5 years, 2 months ago
Hi Mark
That is good progress so far. I have nearly completed my B1 refurb now. I also had a pile of screws etc zinc plated. It’s a great improvement for comparatively little cost. What paint did you use for your engine?

This is turning out to be a small world. At the Wirall your not far from me in Bolton and strangely I’ve been speaking to Rupert who you bought the bike from.
Are you planning to fix then ride her home or is it a trailor job?
Cheers

As smiddl says no balancing is the main advantage but also settings are guaranteed to be identical. There are various ways I’ve seen this done but not seen the Mikuni done before. What size and model is it?
The B and G models all use 38mm carbs whereas the others use 34mm carbs. Don’t get confused thinking a single carb needs to have double…[Read more]

Good work Cameron. Although I am a fan of Kawasaki green I don’t think it works well with these old models.
I like what you’ve done so far and the tank is very smart. The exhaust is not my cup of tea but I am very interested to see how that seat works out.Keep it up

Yes Kurt repair kits are available. Search RBK-33 on ebay. I also have the oil filter seal. Tomorrow I will test to see if the starter motors I have are working.

Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Carbs won't stop leaking in the forum Progress Reports 5 years, 3 months ago
Definitely no to using 2 gaskets, this would solve nothing. As Marksav says the fuel level is to high. This could be because the floats are not set correctly or because the float valve isn’t working properly. Check them and reset/replace as required.

I absolutely agree with Coleighf. A problem like this will not cure itself and the more you use it this way the worse it will get and potentially cause further damage.
Just replacing the head gasket is obviously more straight forward than doing the valve stem seals as well but that is your choice. If it was me I would just replace the head gasket…[Read more]

I am a design engineer by trade so understanding how things work is second nature to me and at my age I do have many hours of stripping and rebuilding both bike and car engines. The manual is very good at explaining things. It has to be followed to the letter and if that’s done it can’t go wrong. The skill is knowing and understanding what it is…[Read more]

I would agree with Coleighf. The head gaskets are one of this bikes weak points. Even Kawasaki acknowledged this as in addition to the 8 head bolts they added 3 extra bolts underneath around the can chain chamber to try and keep things tight and leak free. As Coleighf says you will need to remove the head and replace the head gasket. That is a…[Read more]

Very interesting.
I’m not aware of any issues occurring through this. I also discovered that originally kawasaki did different length conrodsnim a similar manor to the big end bearings to allow for manufacturing errors. You could tell by a coloured dot on the crank. They deemed it unnecessary and stopped it and I must admit i totally agree with…[Read more]

Hi AndyMase and welcome to the site.
If you’ve ridden bikes you will have a great understanding of what they can and should do so don’t worry about your lack of spanner experience your already half way there.
This is a pretty quiet site generally but it is full of help and knowledge. These 750 twins are about as basic as you can get so a great…[Read more]

Hey Beachy good to see you back. Hopefully you can get on the Gemseck again and hopefully finish her off. She is looking like a bike again.

I have a sneaky feeling it won’t be quite that simple ha ha.
I have manifolds for both types and am SU carb. Never fitted them but will probably get around to it one day.
