Fingers crossed Karl. One way or another we will get it done even if you have to get a new head but hopefully it won’t go that far.

Hi Karl
Preston isn’t that far from me so if I can help there just shout up.
I assume he is grinding the valve stems down to create a gap. We can also grind shims if needed. I believe they are hardened through not just the surface.

It is likely that the re cutting of the valve seats has reduced the gaps significantly. Grinding the valve stems is one way of combatting that issue if re shimming isn’t able to sort it out. I also believe it is also possible to grind the shims as they are hardened through and not just surface hardened. Let us know how you get on.
Cheers

If I haven’t got items here my first port of call is Zpower, then ebay where I try and do deals. When Zpower are stuck they come to me. Send me a list of what you want and I will quote you. I have now helped quite a few members.

Well indeed a positive start Karl. I’ve picked up some more shims so we should be fine whatever sizes you need.

Hi Karl
I only have 2 x 2.2 shims so there is a 2.3 on it’s way down to you mate which should be fine to determine the sizes you need.

Hi Jon
That sounds expensive for powder coating. I got all mine done for £120 although didn’t include my wheels as they are spoked.
There is a spacer in between the bearings. This is a tube and has a collar at one end. The collar is to help hold the spacer concentric with the I/D of the bearing so they line up for the axle to pass through. The…[Read more]

Great news you’ve managed to remove the old bearings Jon. Are you still wanting me to price new ones?

Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Rearsets anyone? in the forum Technical Garage 4 years, 7 months ago
I can’t say I know of anyone who has fitted rearsets. However one of our members (chrisLWG) has done a modification to his footrests which alters the position. He has reversed the footpegs (fitting the left on the right and the right on the left) and with modifications reconnected the gear change and brake pedal.
Maybe this would help give you…[Read more]

Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Problems with LED headlight install. Help, please. in the forum Technical Garage 4 years, 7 months ago
I don’t know that much about wiring LED lights but I do believe they will only work one way meaning they are terminal sensitive. From what you are describing it sounds like the live has a constant connection on the indicator circuit when they are switched on and as the relay attempts to do it’s job it is weakening the positive supply rather than…[Read more]

I use to have to work that way so you have my sympathy.
Personally if the sump gasket is currently OK I would leave it alone. It isn’t that difficult to do with the engine in anyway.
Keep us updated with your progress.

Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Paint colour in the forum How To Fix It 4 years, 7 months ago
Personally I am unaware of anything but I would suggest take the right panel to an auto paint suppliers that matches and get them to make you one. Where you have a problem is the base coats as variations can significantly alter the shade. If you want to do it on the cheap take it to halfraud’s or similar and do it that way. Make sure you check it…[Read more]

Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Forks. in the forum General 4 years, 8 months ago
There is a guy on ebay doing fork stanchions for the B1 but at £174 they are not cheap. I have discovered that one of the Z900 tubes fit and if you use the B3/B4 springs they got in without the need of a spacer. They are approximately 30mm longer than standard but still allow (just) the centre stand to do it’s job.
I can get the replacement fork…[Read more]

Great that you’ve got it off Jon. I have not had one that stubborn in fact all mine have come straight off. Hopefully it won’t have damaged anything else badly. Shout up if you need any headlight ears etc I have a few reasonable sets here plus other parts.

Normally I just use a drift and tap them out a bit at a time. I have not seen that before. It does look like it would probably do the trick. I will speak with Zpower next week and try and get some feedback.
There is a tip for easier removal next time. Using a dremmel or something similar make 4 small grooves in the headstock to allow a bigger…[Read more]

Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Tyres in the forum Technical Garage 4 years, 8 months ago
Hi Jon
Tyres back in the day were very skinny compared to modern standards but they were designed to do a job and in my opinion did it well. There is not much room to play with at the sides of the wheel so if you are going bigger I would suggest no more than one size up from standard. I personally stick to the original sizes. If it’s not broken…[Read more]
