That’s great news about the exhaust but just a bit of a warning with re chroming. Most places don’t want to re chrome exhausts especially used ones as they need to be chemically cleaned to remove the carbon deposits. This takes time and also costs. One member just had his done and I believe it cost around £500 so beware.

That sounds like some serious corrosion there. Is it the same on both sides? With a little heat they should turn then lift off. Sounds like the forks will be seriously damaged too. If you need replacements of the forks and headlight ears I can potentially help you out.

It’s always handy to have a pile of bits when restoring one of these twins. Some things do need to be replaced with new parts but there is a great satisfaction when you manage to restore a 40+ year old part so it looks new.
If you are getting rid of any parts please shout up here.

I have spoken to OSpipes. They will do a system at around £800 but they need to have the bike for at least a day while they set it up.

@Karl – Good news re the broken bolt. That could have been much worse. It really does seem to be picking up the pace now. Im sure you will need shims once back together but I have all sizes here mate.
@jimmyjaz – Absolutely JJ it has had awful abuse. Replacement is the most straightforward way but you can’t be 100% sure you not putting a duff…[Read more]

No problem Karl it is what this site is all about.
That’s an amazing job so far. It doesn’t look like the same engine. Such a shame about the snapped bolt. Are you going to helicoil it?

The vehicle needs to be 40+ years old on the 1st of January prior to the 1st of April of the same year.
This is the wording on the Government website
Historic vehicle tax exemption
You can apply to stop paying for vehicle tax from 1 April 2020 if your vehicle was built before 1 January 1980. You must tax your vehicle even if you do not have to…[Read more] -

Hi Jon
Has the bike still got the label on the headstock next to the chassis number? That tells you the actual date of manufacture and from my experience is generally the year before the date of registration. If not Kawasaki can supply a letter that confirms when that frame was made. I think it’s around £55 which is more than a years tax so…[Read more]

I have spoken to Awesome Graphics in Ikleston who say they can do them. They however need an originals to copy. If you don’t have originals I have original tank and tail piece that can lend them. Cost will be around £50 a set.

Good condition kickstart’s are not common because the chrome peels. I am experimenting with having one zinc plated then giving it a light polish. Unfortunately the z1 one doesn’t fit properly, I have tried it but the pinch bolt is of a different orientation.

Hi Jon
I am not quite sure what is going to be stuck here. Have you removed the top yoke? Have you removed the forks? Do you have any pictures of the problem?
