@Karl – Good news re the broken bolt. That could have been much worse. It really does seem to be picking up the pace now. Im sure you will need shims once back together but I have all sizes here mate.

@jimmyjaz – Absolutely JJ it has had awful abuse. Replacement is the most straightforward way but you can’t be 100% sure you not putting a duff…[Read more]

No problem Karl it is what this site is all about.

That’s an amazing job so far. It doesn’t look like the same engine. Such a shame about the snapped bolt. Are you going to helicoil it?

  • Hi Jon

Has the bike still got the label on the headstock next to the chassis number? That tells you the actual date of manufacture and from my experience is generally the year before the date of registration. If not Kawasaki can supply a letter that confirms when that frame was made. I think it’s around £55 which is more than a years tax so…[Read more]

I have spoken to Awesome Graphics in Ikleston who say they can do them. They however need an originals to copy. If you don’t have originals I have original tank and tail piece that can lend them. Cost will be around £50 a set.

Good condition kickstart’s are not common because the chrome peels. I am experimenting with having one zinc plated then giving it a light polish. Unfortunately the z1 one doesn’t fit properly, I have tried it but the pinch bolt is of a different orientation.

  • Hi Jon

I am not quite sure what is going to be stuck here. Have you removed the top yoke? Have you removed the forks? Do you have any pictures of the problem?

Kinnel we sound like a complete pair of anoraks. Sad as it may be I do enjoy this knowledge. It is surprising just how much mindless Sh*t is in my head at times but it’s good to share mate.

  • Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Swing arm bushes in the forum How To Fix It 5 years ago

That’s are correct and fair enough re the bushes mate.

However regarding the labels this is becoming a bigger discussion ha ha. I assume you are referring to the following extracts

There are a few who prefer mags as oppose to wires. My preference is the wires but I do hace a set of mags in the garage.

  • Hi Malc and welcome to the site.

Sounds like you bought a bit of a challenge there but great to hear you’ve seen it through to the end. Please post some pics when she is ready.

Shame you didn’t find us earlier as we could have helped with parts.

    Cheers

  • Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Swing arm bushes in the forum How To Fix It 5 years ago

Well I stand corrected. I cannot see any reason why cast iron would be used in this way but it does explain why some members are having so much trouble removing old ones. It’s not very often I’ve needed to replace these. When I recently Refurbed my B1 I used a NOS swinging arm so didn’t need to remove them.

The one’s I am offering in brass are…[Read more]

That is really interesting. I will look into that but keep me updated on your progress. If all else fails then I can supply brass ones for around £20 if I remember correctly.

Hi SquadronLeader and welcome to the site.

It has been great chatting with you and so glad we got you that B2. Although it appears to need very little doing to it I am looking forward to seeing your progress with the restoration.

If the pictures of your kettle are anything to go by the result will be excellent.

Sorry mate I was thinking of the balancer chain guides. The Hy-vo chains are quite bullet proof in themselves so does sound good for you.

  • Kaptainkwak replied to the topic Swing arm bushes in the forum How To Fix It 5 years ago

Well I will stand corrected if I a wrong but to the best of my knowledge the swinging arm bushes have always been brass. The replacement ones definitely are and I see no reason to have made them in cast iron. It certainly looks like you had a job on your hands there but the main thing is you got them out.

You are right about B3 onwards being on…[Read more]
